True Repentance
How did God create man?
Gen. 2:7 “The Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being”. Man is made of three parts: spirit, soul and body. The soul has three parts: thoughts and feelings and will.
How did God create man?
Gen. 2:7 “The Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being”. Man is made of three parts: spirit, soul and body. The soul has three parts: thoughts and feelings and will.
The way God intended at the creation was the soul to be obedient to the spirit and the body was to be under the obedience of the soul. But because of sin and the fall of man this order was mixed up. Adam and Eve were cast out of the presence of God and their spirits were darkened. Since then everyone is born with a darkened spirit and apart from God.
But since our God, is a loving God He did not want us to be left in darkness, so “He gave His one and only Son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life”. When we believe in our hearts that God raised Jesus Christ from the dead we are saved. That means we accept that Christ died on the cross for our sins and that He shed his blood to spare us. When we accept this in our hearts and confess it with our mouths we become righteous in God’s eyes and He gives His spirit, the Holy Spirit, to us and we become born again. That is to say that our spirit that was darkened since our birth, now illuminates.
What does repent mean?
To repent is to change the way we think.
A true repentance must take place in all three parts of the soul.
- Repentance in thoughts:
To repent in thoughts means to change the way we think about sin, man and God.
Sin is a personal wrongdoing, man is a lost and non holy creature and God is love.
- Repentance in feelings:
To repent in feelings means to have a remorse feeling towards our sin, and to have
A great desire to be forgiven.
- Repentance in will:
To repent in will is to step out in faith and apply it in our lives. We have to
confess our sins and the fruit of the repentance should be seen. (doctor and
patient example)
What does “having faith” mean?
Having faith is an act of heart and it requires a change in our thoughts, feelings and will.
- The thought aspect is to accept that we are sinners and acknowledge that which Christ died for us on the cross.
2) The feeling aspect is to accept and love God.
3) The will aspect is the logical result of the first two aspects.
We cannot be saved unless all three parts of our souls are changed.
